Tantius Farm & Sanctuary is a place for horses to be horses. A place where older horses come to play, and stay!
In 1990, a Morgan gelding named Jaklee Mr. T burst into my life and changed it forever. In his honor, we strive to help horses (predominately Morgans) that would otherwise slip through the cracks of the equine community. We network, we transport and sometimes we take them in because its just the right thing to do.
UPDATE: 2010 was a spectacular year at the farm! The NY Breeders show in May was the culmination of a dream for us - our first three rescues - Gabey, Tia & Rip all went to the show! Tia & Rip put in fine performances and Gabey acted as if he'd never done anything else. 2011 will be Gabey's debut in the show ring!
Tia and Kim also had great rides and took home some nice ribbons at the NY State Fair and New York Morgan Regionals. It has been Kim's dream to show at Regionals and she was very proud to be able to compete this year with Tia. The little black mare pinned very well and it was the perfect way to end the Morgan show season.
In other news: Breeze attended her first show at Little Apple Stables! Out of 9 or 10 horses in each class, she took home a third and a fifth! Buster went along for companionship, but seemed to need Breeze more than she needed him! This year she and Kim will be setting their sights on Open Hunter shows.
To finish out the year, Tantius Farm became the foster home to a grade Morgan gelding that was going through New Holland Auction in early November. He was slated for slaughter but with the help of ForeverMorgans, Galahad (as he was christened) found his way to a second chance at life. He is proving to be smart, level-headed, curious and highly social! Keep checking the website for updates on this beautiful liver chestnut gelding.
"Took" as he was affectionately known, is the cornerstone that Tantius Farm is built upon. He is the reason we exist. It will always be his farm, his final resting place. He came to me in a series of chance meetings and mishaps. He taught me to fight for what I love and to be brave until there is nothing left. Thank you to those of you who were there for me when it was his time to cross over.

If nothing good comes from tragedy, then all the heartache and misery is for nothing. I knew if I did not bring something positive out of losing my best friend Took, then all would be wasted. After looking at his empty stall for a month, I had to do something. The stall was warm with nice bedding and good neighbors, fresh water and food every day. If Took couldn't occupy that stall, he would have wanted me to give it to a horse that needed it. In January 2008, Buster Magoo came to live at Tantius Farm...
Buster spent his life on an Amish farm. When his owner died, his son took Buster to auction. Now, Buster is no spring chicken as the white hairs on his face and collar marks on his shoulders bare witness. A wonderful lady named Paige heard Buster's name called over the loudspeakers. Now Paige was there to boost a horse in honor of her 1/2 draft 1/2 Morgan gelding named Buster, whom she'd lost. She won the bid and this gentle old soul quarantined at AC4H with Christy Sheidy. Days later, I knew Buster was the horse for that empty stall.
He has become a local celebrity, much like Took - especially with the little kids. He will live out his days here being loved and fawned over.
